African Dialects: In-Person Interpreters - Needed in New York City

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serve as an interpreter for People with Limited English Proficiency in different social services settings.
  • Provide consecutive interpretations between English and the desired language. Ex. Spanish, Mandarin, French, etc.
  • Listen to complete statements in one language, translate them to the second, and translate responses from the second into the first language.
  • Express either approximate or exact translation, depending on the nature of the occasion.

Minimum Requirements & Experience

  • Associate Degree
  • At least three years of experience Interpreting settings
  • Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that is above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year-for-year basis or
  • Be a Native Linguist
  • Interpreting: 2 years (Preferred)
  • English: 5 years (Required)
  • Bilingual: 3 years (Preferred)

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required

  • Fluency in both languages being spoken. Ex. English to Spanish, etc.
  • Listening skills

·       Ability to read and write in both languages.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

  • Walking, Sitting, and Moving around.
  • Work is typically performed in a typical interior or exterior work environment.

Job Types:

  • Freelance

Rate and Hours:

  • Depending on the language
  • 2-hour shift 
  • 4-hour shift
  • 8-hour shift
  • Day shift
  • Monday to Friday
  • Overnight shift
  • Weekend availability
