UUSA is organized under the laws of New York State as a not-for-profit corporation. As such, UUSA is a tax-exempt organization as defined under Section 501C(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and is governed by an independent, non-salaried Board of Directors.


 

Position:                    Community Engagement Intern

Location:                    Remote/Nationwide or Hybrid

FLSA Status:              Non-exempt

Salary:                        $15/Hourly

Hours per week:        20 hours maximum

Time Frame:               February 13th - May 17th, 2024


 

Community Engagement Intern

UNICEF USA seeks a Community Engagement intern for its National Office to support domestic programs in the Community Alliance for Child Rights. The intern will work in collaboration with the Youth & Volunteer Engagement Team and Municipal Partnerships Team to research best practices in club models, design youth-friendly content office to help more effectively engage young people, and to research best practices and develop resources to support municipal partners in their efforts to center children and young people in local decision making.

 

This internship will provide an opportunity to learn about:

  • Best practices in youth engagement strategy
  • Maintaining social media and communication outreach
  • UNICEF programs and community engagement
  • Best practices in child-focused local governance


Key Responsibilities/Projects:

  • Conduct desk research and focus groups with youth network members and make recommendations on content and tactics used by youth clubs to maximize engagement and impact
  • Support recruitment and selection of Youth Leaders through tracking, communication and analysis of the 2024 cohort.
  • Inform the design and execution of social media content for key action days like Earth Day and Mental Health Awareness Month.
  • Research good practices in child-focused local governance by reviewing the activity of UNICEF USA municipal partners and available desk research
  • Contribute to resources and tools to support municipal partners in the adoption of child-focused local governance strategies


Qualifications:

  • Must be a current student enrolled in a College or University degree program
  • Interest in research, youth engagement, content design, community organizing and local government
  • Must have experience with community organizing, volunteer management, and a passion for inspiring others (extracurricular activities, leaders of clubs etc.)
  • The successful candidate must also have a demonstrated interest in and knowledge of children's rights and international issues, as well as a commitment to public service
  • The ideal candidate will be resourceful and energetic with the ability to manage multiple priorities and work autonomously with attention to detail
  • Innovation, creativity, and a team player mentality are necessary for success in this role
  • Demonstrated ability to lead effective presentations and workshops and ease in public speaking for groups large and small
  • Experience working with students or in educational programming is a plus
  • Experience working with local government or other types of civic engagement is a plus
  • Proven ability to work well with a diverse group of people in a virtual team setting
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written; experience working with cross-country teams a plus
  • Fluency in TikTok, Instagram, Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel is preferred
  • Must be a highly motivated team player who enthusiastically embraces the mission of UNICEF and UNICEF USA
  • Must demonstrate UNICEF USA Core Values: Trust, Respect, Accountability, Innovation, Teamwork and Service
  • Intern must be based in the United States.
  • Needs their own work equipment to be with the organization
