Air Resources Technician II

This is a Permanent Intermittent position. This position may work a maximum of 1500 hours per calendar year.

The Regulatory and Risk Modeling Section is responsible for providing microscale to statewide air quality and toxics modeling support for the Board’s various regulatory programs and policies, including community air protection program (AB617), airborne toxic control measures (ATCMs), state implementation plans for lead, NO2, and SO2, EJ, air toxics hot spots program, emergency responses, and many others. The Section provides meteorological and air dispersion modeling technical support for special and sensitive projects having multiple stakeholders with varied interests. In addition, the Section develops, maintains and enhances a comprehensive, statewide meteorological database and a visualization tool and provides technical support for the smoke management program. The incumbent will work with the section staff to assist in conducting the statewide triennial air quality and toxics modeling, especially for the quality assurance and data analysis of modeling inputs and outputs, mapping and/or plotting of the modeling results, and modeling performance evaluation. The incumbent will also assist in development of 1) an air data access platform with plotting tools for surface and aloft meteorological parameters, 2) a GIS-based interactive visualization mapping tool and data portal for California Air Toxics Assessment, and 3) a modeling guidance for compliance with the NO2 State Ambient Air Quality Standard. Working Conditions

The positions at the CARB may be eligible for telework with in-person attendance based on the operational needs of the position under Government Code 14200 for eligible applicants residing in California, subject to the candidate meeting telework eligibility criteria set forth in the CalEPA telework policy and/or future program need. Employees not residing in California are not eligible for telework. Regardless of hybrid telework eligibility, all employees may be required to report to the position’s designated headquarters location at their own expense, as indicated on their duty statement.
