IT Specialist (CustSpt) Southwestern Indian Polytechnic Institute (SIPI)

This position is part of the Southwestern Indian Polytechnic Institute, Bureau of Indian Education (BIE). As a IT Specialist (CustSpt) you will be responsible for assisting users in resolving technical computer problems on the college campus as well as ensuring that systems are being maintained.

As a IT Specialist (CustSpt)GS-2210-7, your typical work assignments may include the following:

  • Serves as point of contact for resolving customer questions or problems concerning Information Technology (IT) automation systems, software and hardware problems, telecommunication troubles, and work order entry and assignments.
  • Assists users in resolving technical computer problems and malfunctions and provide network account support.
  • Implement and maintain technical and physical safeguards and software access controls.
  • Perform regularly scheduled systems management and maintenance procedures.
  • Monitor and enforce system security policies and procedures.

Applicants must meet the qualification requirements contained in the OPM Standards. For this position, they are listed below.

Basic Requirements
This standard allows eligibility through meeting either the requirements specified in the section titled Education or the requirements specified in the section titled Experience.

Education: All academic degrees and coursework must be from accredited or pre-accredited institutions.

Undergraduate or Graduate Education: Degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks.

Education
GS-7: Superior Academic Achievement: Bachelor's degree and superior academic achievement by meeting one of the following: a grade point average (GPA) 3.0 or higher in all degree courses or in the final 2 years of undergraduate study or a graduating GPA of 3.5 or higher based on the average of the required courses completed in the major field or the required courses in the major field completed during the final two years of the curriculum; OR membership in a National honor society recognized by the Association of College Honor Societies. Experience
Experience must be IT related; the experience may be demonstrated by paid or unpaid experience and/or completion of specific, intensive training (for example, IT certification), as appropriate. Individuals must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below. The employing agency is responsible for identifying the specific level of proficiency required for each competency at each grade level based on the requirements of the position being filled.

Specialized Experience for GS-7 and Above: Positions at GS-7 and above require one year of specialized experience at the next lower GS-grade (or equivalent). Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular competencies/knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position and is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Such experience is typically gained in the IT field or through the performance of work where the primary concern is IT. The employing agency is responsible for defining the specialized experience based on the requirements of the position being filled, as shown below:

GS-7: 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-5 level in the Federal service. Examples include: Performing IT Service Desk activities; resolves routine and recurring problems, determining hardware, software, and telecommunications equipment; installs, configures, and tests software on customer workstations; provides basic troubleshooting for hardware and software components; and provides routine advice and guidance to customers requesting information on established policy or procedures.
