The VT Agriculture & Environmental Laboratory (VAEL) is seeking an individual to work as a Seasonal Analyst in the Organic Chemistry Lab and Sample Receiving Area to help handle the increased workload which occurs from late spring through the end of October. The Seasonal Analyst is responsible for a series of tests used to monitor ground and surface waters, soil, and air quality. 

 

The candidate will learn and apply many lab analysis and sample preparation techniques, learn the use of a laboratory information management system, will interact with chemists and biologists involved with environmental management, and will come to appreciate the use of a quality management system in day-to-day laboratory operations. The candidate will also assist staff in other areas when needed, such as: processing sample test kit orders for clients, assisting with incoming deliveries, glassware processing, and quality assurance.

 

This position is up to full-time (40 hours/week), M-F with flexible start and end dates between the months of May and October. The laboratory is located on the Vermont State University Randolph Campus in Randolph Center, Vermont.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

 

Education             

One year of college-level courses including engineering, chemistry, biological-life or physical science, math and/or natural resources.

 

OR

Experience                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                     

At least six months of work experience relevant to specific job duties.

 

 

Specific Skills/Specialized Knowledge        Good manual dexterity, attention to detail, computer skills, and knowledge of algebra.

 

Preference given to those candidates with:

  • At least one year of course work in general chemistry.
  • Computer literacy including Excel, Word, LIMS.
  • Automated extraction experience.
  • Sample preparation experience.
