Air Pollution Specialist

The Specialized Fleet Enforcement Section (SFES) within the Enforcement Division (ED) is seeking an enthusiastic, motivated, and resourceful Air Pollution Specialist (APS). SFES is responsible for enforcing California’s on and off-road diesel regulations and programs, including the Heavy-Duty Inspection and Maintenance Program known as Clean Truck Check, Statewide Truck and Bus, Off-Road Equipment, and Transport Refrigeration Unit Regulations. SFES conducts planning, development, and organization of roadside or stationary deployment of Portable Emission Acquisition System (PEAQS), investigates repair issues and tampering of emission control systems and on-board diagnostics (OBD), and engages in community outreach and environmental justice concerns related to diesel vehicles and off-road equipment.


 

The APS's primary role will be conducting field inspections and investigations related to heavy duty vehicles and off-road equipment. The APS would play a key role in planning and conducting field inspections, ensuring safe and effective operations. Many of the field inspections include deploying California Air Resources Board (CARB's) Portable Emissions AcQuisition System (PEAQS), which will remotely screen passing heavy duty vehicle emissions to target the highest emitting vehicles. The APS will also conduct background research on owners of regulated equipment and take initial compliance decisions. The APS may also assist other teams within the Diesel Programs Enforcement Branch and assist with special project assignments as needed.

This position will require travel.  

This position can be located in Sacramento or Riverside County.
