Job Summary:

The Department of Forest Ecosystems and Society is seeking a salaried Academic Wage - Research Associate. This is a part-time (0.50 FTE), 12-month, fixed-term position. This position is anticipated to last approximately one month.

The College of Forestry and Department of Forest Ecosystems and Society, in collaboration with the Indigenous Natural Resources Office, is in need of a part-time employee for two months to work on two projects: 1. Initial conceptualization of analysis and dissemination of key messages from a set of Tribal Roundtables, and 2. Initial conceptualization of the characterization of the concept of co-stewardship.

Key Responsibilities

75% Lead and assist scholarly activities including author/co-authoring peer reviewed publications and the presenting findings at conferences, co-authoring articles and reports on Co-Stewardship and Indigenous Knowledge and forest management as needed. This also involves working with the larger Nelson Lab group and lending expertise and assistance to graduate students as needed.

25% Assist with developing ongoing relationships with Tribal Nations, incorporating traditional cultural elements as appropriate and in keeping with any agreements between OSU and the Tribal Nations. Tribal engagement activities might include attending Tribal community events and supporting partners who are members of Tribal Nations. Help to create an environment that is welcoming for Tribal partners to learn STEM within the context of Indigenous Knowledge. Support and be involved in outreach efforts, such as media communications. Work with the OSU Foundation and other campus entities supporting this work as needed.

What You Will Need

• PhD in degree in forestry and natural resources social science or related field.
• Ability to engage in project outreach.
• Ability to develop strong, positive relationships with Tribal Nations.
• Record of peer-reviewed publications relevant to the position.
• Leadership and management skills.
• Demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity
