Job Description:

Responsibilities

The Hourly Research Scientist will work on several grant-funded projects within the Bureau of Environmental & Occupational Epidemiology, Center for Environmental Health. The incumbent will join a team of public health professionals to work on epidemiologic studies focused on examining associations between environmental exposures and human health outcomes. The incumbent will draft and assist with drafting manuscripts related to the PFAS Multisite Study (MSS) and other biomonitoring activities within the Bureau.  This will include drafting manuscripts for the PFAS communities involved in the MSS and will involve data collected as part of the MSS as well as data collected through NYSDOH biomonitoring activities which occurred before the MSS began.  Additional activities will include community outreach and attending community meetings in the affected communities.

Minimum Qualifications

PhD in Public Health, Socio-medical Sciences or a related field.  At least ten years of experience in environmental public health. 

Preferred Qualifications

Experience managing staff. Knowledge and experience with the history of the PFAS water contamination, remediation, blood testing and results data in New York State communities.  Demonstrated working knowledge of the Hoosick Falls, Petersburgh, and Newburgh communities as well as familiarity with the stakeholders in each community.

Conditions of Employment
Grant funded, hourly position expected to last through 09/29/2024. Compliance with funding requirements such as time and effort reporting, grant deliverables, and contract deliverables, is required.

Valid and unrestricted authorization to work in the U.S. is required. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.


This position requires that the incumbent will report to the official work location and live within commuting distance to the official work location. Telecommuting will not be available.
