Job Summary:

 

This recruitment will be used to fill one part-time (approximately 30 hours per week) Laboratory Animal Technician 1 position for the Lab Animal Resource Center at Oregon State University (OSU).

 

This position supports the husbandry, care, welfare and health of OSU's Research. Animal populations associated with the Department of Lab Animal Resource Center at OSU.

 

LARC is a decentralized unit with animals housed in 3 separate facilities across Campus and 1 facility off campus. Duties include, but are not limited to, weekday and weekend feeding, watering, health monitoring and caring for animals as well as cage changing, cage cleaning, equipment monitoring, building maintenance and supply management. This position supports the overall functions of the LARC as determined by the Director or Supervisor, LARC

What You Will Need

 

This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per University Standard: 05-010 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.

 

This position requires driving a university vehicle or a personal vehicle on behalf of the university; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a motor vehicle history check, possess, and maintain a current, valid driver’s license in their state of residence, be determined to be position qualified and self-report convictions as per University Policy 05-030.

 

What We Would Like You to Have


 

• 6 months of work associated with the care and/or handling of Research Animals within a Research environment.

• Weekend work availability.

• A demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity.

 

Working Conditions / Work Schedule

 

• This position is deemed essential and the incumbent may be expected to report to work during inclement weather, emergency and other University work curtailments or closures. Must be able to work under the following conditions with or without reasonable accommodation: caging dis-assembly, washing and sanitizing animal cages involving dust, animal dander, odors, warm temperatures and high humidity conditions on a periodic basis; working under animal disease control procedures and conditions requiring use of protective equipment such as face mask, head cover, shoe cover, etc; lifting up to 50 lbs. of feed and bedding sacks, sacks of refuse, disinfectants and cleaning solution containers; pushing or pulling heavy rolling stock of cages; weekend and some holiday work is required.
