Job Summary:

 

This recruitment will be used to fill one part-time, intermittent (approximately 10 hours per week as needed) Education Program Assistant 1 position for the Division of Extension and Engagement's Extension Wheeler County Office with Oregon State University (OSU).

 

This intermittent Education Program Assistant (EPA) position is based at the Oregon State University Extension Service Office in Wheeler County.

 

This EPA assists with the development, implementation, and evaluation of general agricultural programming for Wheeler County. Programs are delivered in a manner that is respectful of local norms and culture.

 

This EPA works with the managing faculty member to ensure that educational programs and outreach activities serve diverse populations, including those that have been historically marginalized/excluded from participation. This includes Civil Rights and Language Access regulations.

Key Responsibilities

 

50% Educational Delivery

 

• Coordinate delivery of statewide supplied online non-credit curriculum and in-person hands on learning activities. Delivery may include the assistance of volunteers. Adapt curriculum to fit local context with program faculty approval. Driving/travel is required.

• Prepare and assemble materials and supplies for classes, purchase supplies. Choose and select educational resources, activities, handouts, and provide additional materials that reinforce learning with program faculty approval.

• Assist with the development of culturally inclusive and socially cognizant marketing/promotional materials that ensure communication to a broad and diverse audience.

• Follow OSU and division brand guidelines, digital publishing standards and digital contact management data integrity practices for programmatic communications, marketing and engagement.

• Conduct and coordinate volunteers for educational presentations at fairs, markets, and community events.

• Distribute outreach and promotional materials. Assemble educational displays and promotional exhibits.

• Assist the managing faculty with creating inclusive environments that make space for a range of learner needs and provide reasonable accommodations.

 

30% Records and Reports

 

• Collect data to register and enroll participants.

• Maintain participant records including input of online data.

• Collect and enter program evaluation data. Input and submit record of work performed and complete other university reporting requirements.

• Develop program reports as part of annual OSU reporting duties.

• Collect and report all contacts made, follow up and evaluation with community partners, and managing volunteer hours reporting system.

 

10% Outreach and Engagement Activities

 

• Promote and communicate information about agriculture programs in a way that allows for communication to an audience from diverse backgrounds and cultural identities.

• Serve as point of contact and representative of the program to community partners.

• Identify appropriate community volunteer opportunities for volunteers.

• Manage assignments and staffing at events of volunteers, including providing materials for community outreach.

• Ensure proper OSU branding at volunteer events.

• Driving/travel is required to perform outreach and engagement activities throughout Wheeler County.

 

10% Organizational Accountability and Service

 

• Ensure a welcoming and inclusive customer service for all.

• Use ever-evolving technology as a tool to increase the reach and impact of program delivery on constituents.

• Attend training opportunities mandated by the university and to build basic knowledge and consistent skills to use digital communications, marketing and engagement technologies relevant to position duties.

• Participate in regular staff meetings, search committees, and other OSU Extension Service activities in Wheeler County

• Demonstrated ability to communicate successfully and inclusively, both in writing and verbally, with a diverse audience.

• Demonstrated skill to use computers for spreadsheets, registration, and digital communications.

• Demonstrated organizational, recordkeeping, and time management skills.

• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, demonstrating initiative and follow-through.

• Ability to make decisions and problem-solve.

• A commitment to collaborative and respectful learning and working environments that are safe, inclusive, and welcoming.

 

This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per University Standard: 05-010 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.

 

This position requires driving a university vehicle or a personal vehicle on behalf of the university; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a motor vehicle history check, possess and maintain a current, valid driver’s license in their state of residence, be determined to be position qualified and self-report convictions as per University Policy 05-030.

 

What We Would Like You to Have


 

• Practical on-farm experience.

• Ability to incorporate use of web, social media, newsletter or other digital technologies in program development or outreach activities to achieve goals.

• Ability to learn and use online applications for communications, scheduling, record keeping, basic graphics, and other administrative tasks.

 

Working Conditions / Work Schedule

 

• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and in a variety of outdoor settings.

• Ability to lift and move (carry/push/pull) 25 pounds of educational materials.

• Driving/travel is required to support delivery of educational programming throughout assigned area.
