CAD Designer/Drafter
ActiveSolar Development is a Capital District-based, upstate, NY commercial solar photovoltaic (PV) developer, looking for a full-time CAD designer/drafter to design portions of solar systems and draft construction drawings that will be used to install the systems. This position will primarily work directly with ActiveSolar’s in-house engineers and consultants, but will also support other departments including business development, project management, construction management, and Operations & Maintenance (O&M).
This position provides an outstanding opportunity to learn all facets of the Solar PV design process.
Essential Job Functions
• Design and layout of commercial and utility-scale Solar PV arrays using computer-aided design (CAD) and dedicated Solar PV design applications including: Helioscope, PVCase, PVsyst, as well as other manufacturer design tools.
• Using AutoCAD to draft photovoltaic system and interconnection designs and generate construction drawings.
• Working closely with engineers throughout the system design process.
• Reviewing and interpreting existing facility drawings and site assessment data processed with ARC-GIS and other software tools to incorporate into new designs.
• Establishing and maintaining in-house drafting templates and standards.
• Performing glare analysis on systems.
• Providing support to business development by generating customer-facing documents and design support.
• Providing support to project management, construction management, and O&M by updating drawings, generating supplemental support documents, and answering questions.
• Researching related code, building, and zoning requirements.
• Attending project meetings and reviews.
• Working with equipment manufacturers and outside engineering consultants during the design
process.
• Performing miscellaneous duties as assigned, including potential facility management tasks.
Job Requirements
• Must be proficient in AutoCAD.
• Previous coursework or work experience with commercial and/or utility-scale Solar PV systems.
• Skills in ARC-GIS, SketchUp, Adobe, Microsoft Office Suite, or other related programs are preferred.
• Must be familiar with construction drawings and industry drawing standards.
• Experience with facility electrical power systems drafting and drawing is preferred.
• Must be able to adapt and adjust quickly to changes.
• Must be able to stand, kneel, crouch, twist, work in tight areas, and around construction sites.
