African Dialects: In-Person Interpreters - Needed in New York City
Duties and Responsibilities
- Serve as an interpreter for People with Limited English Proficiency in different social services settings.
- Provide consecutive interpretations between English and the desired language. Ex. Spanish, Mandarin, French, etc.
- Listen to complete statements in one language, translate them to the second, and translate responses from the second into the first language.
- Express either approximate or exact translation, depending on the nature of the occasion.
Minimum Requirements & Experience
- Associate Degree
- At least three years of experience Interpreting settings
- Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that is above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year-for-year basis or
- Be a Native Linguist
- Interpreting: 2 years (Preferred)
- English: 5 years (Required)
- Bilingual: 3 years (Preferred)
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required
- Fluency in both languages being spoken. Ex. English to Spanish, etc.
- Listening skills
· Ability to read and write in both languages.
Working Conditions and Physical Effort
- Walking, Sitting, and Moving around.
- Work is typically performed in a typical interior or exterior work environment.
