Essential Functions
Provide support to UNO and P-16 faculty teams for service learning projects. The Graduate Assistant will work with multiple projects that include event coordination, research, and logistical support. Training assistance, community outreach, database management, and assessment are also primary components of this position.

Additional Duties
The Graduate Assistant will assist the Service Learning Coordinator and other Service Learning Academy staff members in providing support to faculty members wishing to incorporate service learning and pre-kindergarten through 12th grade (P-12) collaboration into courses. The role will also include:
- promoting the growth and sustainability of the Service Learning Academy’s P-16 initiative, Maverick Philanthropy Initiative, and Traditional service learning courses
- establishing and maintaining positive communication with faculty partners, P-12 teachers, and community partners to explore and develop new opportunities to incorporate service learning into the curriculum
- implementing logistical and risk management measures
- participating in committees and special projects, and
- completing other related duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
Must be admitted to a full-time graduate program and maintain full-time status (6 graduate hours minimum) for the duration of the appointment. Successful candidates will have excellent communication, problem-solving, organization, and interpersonal skills. Must be able to manage multiple projects efficiently. Ability to work collaboratively with diverse populations is a necessity. Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs is essential.
Valid driver’s license is required. Frequent travel within the Metro area is a part of the position so access to reliable transportation is needed.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience as a participant or facilitator in service learning courses. Candidates who are bilingual in Spanish are encouraged to apply. Experience working with P-12 students is a strongly encouraged. Experience with creation of infographics, flyers/promotional materials, graphs, and video editing is a plus.

The Service Learning Academy (SLA) is committed to developing its Graduate Assistants in a variety of ways – there are educational and professional benefits to the work they do with SLA. Graduate students interested in service learning theory and practices and community engagement can apply learning by assisting in the development and logistical support of projects in partnership with UNO courses, P-12 classes, after school programs, and/or community agencies.
This is an academic year (9 month) appointment. GAs works 20 hours a week (excluding holidays and University breaks). The schedule is flexible depending on projects. GAs earn a monthly stipend consistent with University assistantship funding levels and tuition remission up to 12 credit hours per semester along with an option for subsidized health insurance authorized by the Board of Regents. This is a 2023-2024 Academic Year assistantship, which is potentially renewable.
