2024 Summer Intern – TRD - Analytical Development Molecular Biology

The Novartis Technical Research & Development Department (TR&D) drives the advancement of adeno-associated virus (AAV) and lentiviral vector (LVV) production platforms across multiple manufacturing and development sites.

Novartis TR&D Analytical Development is seeking a highly motivated Summer Intern to join the growing, dynamic multidisciplinary team. The person will contribute to the development and optimization of phase-appropriate molecular biology assays for the lot release, stability testing and characterization of drug substance/drug product by reporting to lead scientist In addition, he/she will participate in exploratory studies driving the evaluation of state-of-the-art new technology platforms, and innovative upgrades for existing assay platforms.

Responsibilities:

1. The intern will help design and execute molecular biology experiments and perform data analysis for characterization of AAV products on NGS, ddPCR and other state-of-the art new technology platforms.

2. The intern will handle the small project on developing of novel applications of molecular biology technologies under the supervision of lead scientist

3. Contribute to day-to-day activities of analytical development team

Minimum Requirements:

Include ONE of the following statements:

Candidates must be currently enrolled in a US accredited degree-granting college​ or university pursuing an undergraduate degree, or graduate degree.

Plus:

Experience with ddPCR, NGS, automation is preferred.

Bioinformatics skill/knowledge/class work is preferred.

Passion in working at the lab bench.

Desire to work in a fast-paced and team-orientated environment.

Excellent written, verbal, communication and interpersonal skills.

Superb attention to detail and an interest in scientific discovery and technology innovation.

Location: San Diego, CA 

Pay Rate: $20-$32/hour based on degree level

Contract: 3 months
