2024 Summer Intern, Process Development – Drug Product

2024 Summer Intern, Process Development – Drug Product

The Novartis Cell & Gene Therapy department (CGT) drives the advancement of adeno-associated virus (AAV) and Lenti Viral Vector (LVV) production platform across multiple manufacturing and development sites and manages the development, scale-up, transfer, optimization, and characterization of processes for the clinical and commercial manufacturing of both new and licensed Novartis products.

The Drug Product (DP) Intern supports laboratory operations in experimental design/execution and platform development project planning/execution. The DP Intern, operating under the direct supervision of senior experts, executes and documents experimental procedures in support of process development activities supporting investigational, and clinical Cell and Gene therapy programs.

Responsibilities:

• Participates in process development efforts under the direction of more senior engineers and scientists.

• Execute experiments and analyze acquired data that contribute to development, optimization of AAV/ LVV manufacturing process under mentorship.

• Work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.

• Maintain good documentation practices and accurate records of experiments.

• Communicate and present results at group and department meetings.

Minimum requirements:

• Currently enrolled in bachelor’s or master's program in chemical engineering, biochemical engineering, or a related technical field.

• Completed at least two years of college education before beginning internship.

• Must be enrolled in school the semester following the internship.

• Previous process development on filtration processes, or manufacturing experience is preferred, but not required.

• Understanding of Design of Experiment principles, basic knowledge of lean laboratory implementation (e.g. 6S) and exposure to laboratory biosafety practices is preferred.

• Ability to work independently and in teams.

• Excellent written, verbal, communication, and interpersonal skills

• Minimum 3.0 GPA

Location: Durham, NC (Onsite)

Pay Rate: $20-$32/hour based on degree level

Contract: 3 months
