Nonprofit Management Intern

The Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting (MCPIR), which publishes The Maine Monitor, is seeking an intern to join the nonprofit management team for a 10 week internship* to contribute to and learn about the full range of activities involved in managing and sustaining one of Maine’s nonprofit newsrooms.

The nonprofit management intern will work directly with the Executive Director, the Development Coordinator, and the full team on initiatives to contribute to fundraising efforts, including grant opportunities, fundraising campaigns, donor and community engagement, and special events. You will learn how a nonprofit operates and gain relevant skills and experience in nonprofit development and exposure to the growing field of nonprofit news.

This is a great opportunity for individuals to gain concrete experience relevant to business, communications, public relations, and nonprofit sustainability.

Working in a small nonprofit requires pitching in on a variety of tasks, an ability to work effectively with all employees, and being courteous and friendly with supporters. We’re looking for a self-starter with great communication skills to join our team in this essential nonprofit Maine news organization. The internship is Maine-based, but interns can work remotely from within Maine, with some in-person activities expected.

This position comes with a $1,500 stipend from The Maine Monitor. We are willing to work with applicants to complete necessary paperwork to apply for financial support from your school or other scholarship source to support your internship with our nonprofit newsroom.

Skills/Experience Sought:

  • Experience managing complex projects
  • Strong verbal and written business communication as well as proofreading and editing skills
  • Exceptional organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail
  • Internal initiative that promotes focus, creative thinking, and solutions
  • Demonstrated flexibility, adaptability, and reliability in a business environment
  • Comfortable asking questions and asking for direction on projects
  • Proficient in social media management, Google Suite, and basic Microsoft products (i.e. MS Word and MS Excel)

*Flexibility in start/end dates may be arranged.

How to apply:

Please submit a cover letter and resume to ameliam@themainemonitor.org. The cover letter should include how your interests and values align with The Maine Monitor and how your background and skills make you a strong candidate for the position. Non-traditional applicants are encouraged to apply!
