Competitive Aquatics Intern

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Competitive Aquatics Intern will provide support for all initiatives for the competitive aquatics department they are assigned. This internship offers experience in fundraising, program development, delivery, and assessment; as well as supervising and training of volunteers, and community outreach.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
·        Work with the competitive aquatics team to provide administrative support.
·        Plan and implement events relevant to competitive swimmers for the team, including training, social events and educational event.
·        Direct, implement, promote and supervise program activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA healthy initiatives objectives.
·        Provide support and guidance to directors, instructors, and staff to ensure the program achieves quality performance outcomes.  
·        Support directors in implementing programs.
·        Recruit, screen and register eligible participants into programs.
·        Assist with retention and commitment of program participants.
·        Compile program statistics. Regularly analyze data to ensure it meets quality performance standards.
·        Monitor daily operations to adhere to all YMCA health and safety standards and policies.
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
1.   Comfort and/or interest in teaching and talking about wellness and sports topics.
2.   Self-directed and able to ask for direction when needed
3.   Excellent communication skills, including the ability to communicate well with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
4.   Ability to build strong relationships, inspire confidence, and work effectively with a wide variety of stakeholders.
5.   Understands the YMCA Mission and purpose as a cause-driven movement.
6.   Strong presentation and/or group presentation skills.
 
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of the job, the volunteer is regularly required to: bend, stoop, kneel, twist, sit, reach with hands, grasp, stand, hear, speak, have finger dexterity, walk, lift up to 40 pounds, push, pull and have visual acuity. Sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions and to supervise program activities in a wide variety of indoor and outdoor locations.
