Job Title: Bioinformatician - Weng lab

Description:

Professor Zhiping Weng’s lab at UMass Medical School is seeking a talented and motivated Bioinformatician to join our team. The successful candidate will work on cutting-edge genomics projects involving deep sequencing data, contributing to groundbreaking research in health and disease. This role offers an excellent opportunity to work in a dynamic and collaborative environment, utilizing state-of-the-art computational tools and techniques.


 

Responsibilities:

  • Analyze and interpret large-scale genomic, epigenomic, and transcriptomic datasets.
  • Develop, implement, and optimize bioinformatics pipelines for deep sequencing data.
  • Collaborate with researchers to design and conduct computational experiments.
  • Perform statistical analysis and data visualization to support research findings.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of analyses and workflows.
  • Prepare results for publication in peer-reviewed journals and presentations at scientific conferences.


 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Genomics, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in programming language Python.
  • Familiarity with the UNIX operating system and shell scripting.
  • Experience with genomics tools and databases (e.g., SAMtools, bedtools, STAR, HISAT2, MACS2, Seurat, etc.).
  • Familiarity with statistical analysis and data visualization software.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.


 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in programming language R.
  • Experience with high-performance computing environments.
  • Knowledge of machine learning techniques and their applications in genomics.
  • Previous research experience with large consortium data (ENCODE, Roadmap Epigenomics, PsychENCODE, BICCN, Human Cell Atlas, etc.)
  • Previous experience working with multi-omics data integration.
