Description:
Professor Zhiping Weng’s lab at UMass Medical School is seeking a talented and motivated Bioinformatician to join our team. The successful candidate will work on cutting-edge genomics projects involving deep sequencing data, contributing to groundbreaking research in health and disease. Responsibilities:
- Analyze and interpret large-scale genomic, epigenomic, and transcriptomic datasets.
- Develop, implement, and optimize bioinformatics pipelines for deep sequencing data.
- Collaborate with researchers to design and conduct computational experiments.
- Perform statistical analysis and data visualization to support research findings.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of analyses and workflows.
- Prepare results for publication in peer-reviewed journals and presentations at scientific conferences.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Genomics, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Proficiency in programming language Python.
- Familiarity with the UNIX operating system and shell scripting.
- Experience with genomics tools and databases (e.g., SAMtools, bedtools, STAR, HISAT2, MACS2, Seurat, etc.).
- Familiarity with statistical analysis and data visualization software.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Proficiency in programming language R.
- Experience with high-performance computing environments.
- Knowledge of machine learning techniques and their applications in genomics.
- Previous research experience with large consortium data (ENCODE, Roadmap Epigenomics, PsychENCODE, BICCN, Human Cell Atlas, etc.)
- Previous experience working with multi-omics data integration.
