Research and Radio Fellow

Research and Radio Fellowship

Now Accepting Applications For Fall 2024

Do you love talking about food? Do you want to learn how to use storytelling to communicate about the complex world of food systems? Do you want to advocate for food equity, sustainability, and for knowledgeable conversations about food?

If the answers are YES, then The Research and Radio Fellowship at HRN is for you!

Who You Are

You’re someone who’s passionate about using your voice to improve food systems. Whether you’re an undergraduate, graduate, post-grad, or someone carving out a path in audio storytelling, this opportunity is designed for you. At HRN, you’ll be part of a team that’s committed to making a real impact on food systems, all while contributing to a workplace that’s both exceptional and genuinely fun.

Prior experience in journalism or audio engineering isn’t necessary, but your passion for food is essential. An interest in media, nonprofits, or agriculture will give you an edge.

About The Fellowship

The Research and Radio Fellowship allows students and young professionals to gain experience and knowledge of writing, producing, and promoting audio stories. Fellows begin the program with a training sprint focused on interviewing skills, developing your personal narrative skills, voiceover skills, and audio production skills. Fellows then become the powerhouse behind HRN’s flagship news and storytelling podcast Meat + Three where you have the opportunity to engage with a broad community of journalists, food producers, chefs, and food advocacy leaders. The Research and Radio Fellowship lasts for six months and requires a commitment of 15-20 hours per week.

As our fellowships are fully remote, it’s recommended that you have reliable, regular access to either a personal computer or a laptop and the ability to download the free Digital Audio Workspace that we use, Reaper. It’s also important that you have consistent and reliable access to high-speed internet. Due to the nature of our audio engineering software, unfortunately we are unable to accommodate for folks operating solely with a smartphone/device.
