HJF is seeking a Research Associate I to perform research and/or development in collaboration with other scientific and technical staff. Exercises technical discretion in the design, execution, and interpretation of experiments that contribute to project strategies. Performs limited analysis and interpretation of results.        

 

This position will be in support of the John A. Feagin, Jr. Orthopaedic Sports Medicine Fellowship, at Keller Army Community Hospital, in West Point, NY. This position will support Orthopaedic and Sports medicine research focused on kinesiology and biomechanics as it relates to sports related injuries in West Point cadets. The position is located near the Hudson Valley with beautiful hiking locations and only an hour north of NYC by train. 

 

The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing military medicine. We serve military, medical, academic and government clients by administering, managing and supporting preeminent scientific programs that benefit members of the armed forces and civilians alike. Since its founding in 1983, HJF has served as a vital link between the military medical community and its federal and private partners. Responsibilities

  • Applicants should be interested in human motion analysis, biomechanics, and clinical assessment. Work will be primarily done in a gait analysis lab.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours for data collection. A successful candidate will be technically proficient and accurate; and effectively communicate with the PIs.
  • Plans, conducts, and completes investigations under supervision.
  • Assists with the writing and editing of experimental results for publication in technical and peer-reviewed journals.
  • Performs routine data analysis and verifies and corrects data entry.
  • Maintains records and documentation regarding assigned research.
  • Documents current or new procedures or protocols for sample selection, data collection, data processing, and/or statistical estimation.
  • May assist with training of laboratory staff and managing and ordering laboratory supplies.
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.


Education and Experience

  • Master’s Degree is required, preferably in Kinesiology, Biomechanics, or Exercise Science.
  • Minimum of 0-2 years’ experience required for master's degrees.
  • Also willing to consider Bachelor's Degree with 3-5 years of experience. Doctoral degrees are also welcome to apply. 

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Biomechanical assessments.
     
  • Gait analysis.
  • Ability to meet deadlines of projects.
  • Good communication and analytical skills.
  • Familiarity with the following is preferred but not required: 3D Motion Capture (specifically Theia and VICON), Isokinetic Dynamometers, and MatLab. 
  • Valid driver's license. 
  • Ability to obtain a T1/Public Trust background check. 

Physical Capabilities 

  • May require lifting materials over 25 lbs.
  • Ability to stand or sit at a computer for prolonged periods.
  • Ability to climb, pull, and lift heavy objects.
  • Operating motor vehicles, machinery, and/or power tools.

Work Environment

  • This position will take place primarily in a gait laboratory setting.

Compensation

  • The likely salary range for this position is $50,100 USD to $70,000 USD annually based on a 40-hour work week. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensations or salary. Final salary will be determined based on market analysis, experience, and education.
