Plant Operator II - Plant Operations & Maintenance
Summary of Job Duties:
Under direct supervision, the Plant Operator II is responsible for training and performing tasks related to the operation of steam production equipment and various auxiliary systems within the power plant.
Primary Responsibilities:
Assist with tasks including general boiler plant operation, boiler draft and combustion control, feed water, steam system management, auxiliary equipment monitoring and operation, boiler header and water column blowdowns, and maintaining proper boiler water chemistry.
Perform minor maintenance as required; investigate and report operational issues.
Assist in the operation of all power plant auxiliary equipment and adhere to safe operating procedures.
Perform general housekeeping, routine maintenance, lubrication, and minor mechanical tasks as needed.
Complete all requirements of the Steam Plant Operator I and II Training Programs in a timely manner.
Attend and participate in all additional operator training sessions as required.
Safely coordinate work with power plant control room operators and maintenance personnel to prevent plant or system upsets or trips.
Complete all required department environmental and safety training and comply with all related department policies and procedures.
Attend and actively participate in all required safety meetings, programs, and training sessions.
Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
The formal education equivalent of a high school diploma
At least one year of industrial and/or mechanical plant experience
Experience with following written and verbal instructions, safety guidelines, and operating procedures
Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and experience in performing minor, routine mechanical maintenance
Possession of a valid driver’s license for legal operation of a motor vehicle in the State of Arkansas
Possession of a high-pressure boiler license
Must meet DOT Gas Transmission Operator Qualifications
Must be able to work in environments containing dust, heat, and high humidity
Applicable equivalencies may be considered on the above qualifications.
Preferred Qualifications:
Prior boiler plant experience
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
Ability to work safely in a heavy industrial environment containing high-temperature boilers, high-pressure steam systems, high-voltage electric systems, and large rotating machinery
Ability to read, write, and comprehend instructions at an acceptable level.
Effective communication with power plant staff and supervision is essential
Ability to work rotating shifts to cover a 24-hour, 7-day-per-week operation
Additional Information:
Persons in this classification must satisfactorily complete all training requirements for the Steam Plant Operator II position within two years.
Compliance with all department safety, health, and environmental policies and procedures is mandatory.
