Reclaim Childhood Summer Internship

About the Internship
Spend the summer working for Reclaim Childhood in Jordan! The summer internship program allows current and recently-graduated university students to experience the inner workings of a small NGO, get hands-on experience with community engagement through sport, and work on their Arabic language proficiency.

The internship duties are approximately 50% on the field and 50% in the office. Interns will help RC’s coaches organize and facilitate summer sports programming. The summer camp works with girls aged 6-18 who are either Jordanians or refugees from Syria, Iraq, Sudan, Somalia, Yemen, and Palestine. Interns also contribute to operational tasks for the organization. Examples include grant writing, monitoring and evaluation, communications, and social media. This provides a unique opportunity to see how NGOs really work. Finally, Reclaim Childhood conducts site visits to local community partners so interns can get a better sense of what type of work exists in the international NGO field.

The internship is unpaid. RC strongly encourages applicants to explore funding opportunities from their colleges/universities and will work with you to fulfill the requirements of those funds. We will also provide necessary documentation and support for the intern to earn academic credit through their institution, if applicable.

Schedule:
The Reclaim Childhood internship is eight weeks long with a tentative start date of mid-June and exact dates to be determined. Start/end dates of the selected intern cohort’s academic and/or athletic commitments will be taken into consideration when possible.

Qualifications:
● Belief in the power of sport and play for youth development - previous experience working with youth is preferred
● Interest in the Arab region
● Desire to learn Arabic - previous experience is strongly preferred
● Commitment to personal and community growth

Deadlines:
All applications must be received by January 20, 2025. To apply, please submit a resume and cover letter addressing your motivation in becoming a Reclaim Childhood intern, as well as relevant past experiences and future goals to admin@reclaimchildhood.org.

Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis, and interested applicants are encouraged to apply ahead of the deadline. We are anticipating accepting a total of five interns. Female candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.

About Reclaim Childhood
Reclaim Childhood (RC) is a nonprofit working in East Amman, Mafraq, and Zarqa, Jordan with the mission to create safe and inclusive spaces for local and refugee girls to thrive by playing sports, working with coaches, and building community. Founded in 2008, RC runs after school sports programs, summer camp, and teen leadership programs. We work towards that mission in three ways: First, to provide a safe space where girls can “Reclaim Childhood” and just be kids. Second, to connect communities that otherwise may not interact – local Jordanians, refugees, and volunteers from all over the world. Third, to empower and inspire young women by employing the positive impact of sport and play. We believe in the power of sports to teach unique life lessons such as leadership, confidence building, and teamwork while providing strong female role models as coaches from within the local communities.
