Staff Physician 2 - Wernersville State Hospital

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

 

As a Staff Physician 2, you will deliver medical care to assigned units at Wernersville State Hospital. You will treat physically ill patients, perform annual physical and neurological examinations, conduct daily rounds, and collaborate with treatment teams to develop appropriate care services. You will identify when patients need to be transferred to community hospitals for emergency or non-emergency medical treatment, and maintain regular communication with community hospital physicians. It is important to ensure that attending unit psychiatrists and treatment teams are aware of patient medical illnesses and treatment orders. In addition, you will attend hospital committee meetings, provide employee physicals, initiate appropriate emergency medical actions, and confer with family members and interested parties about patient treatment and prognosis.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM, with a 30-minute lunch. You will have varied days off, work every other weekend, and work on-duty physician coverage as scheduled.
  • Schedule may change based on operational needs

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Three years of experience and/or training in the practice of medicine. 

 

Special Requirements:

  • Possession of a license to practice medicine in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania as issued by the State Medicine Board, or the State Osteopathic Medicine Board.

Legal Requirements:

  • You must pass a background investigation.
  • A conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination and a drug screening.
  • This position falls under the provisions of the Older Adult Protective Services Act.
    • Under the Act, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to, PA State Police and FBI clearance.
