What I liked

Good program set up with lots of options for roles. I was given responsibilities and felt like my role was based on merit, not the fact I was an intern.

The only thing is I wish there was a more structured onboarding plan. My team was relatively new, so this is very likely to be a personal experience

Advice

Network, interview people in different roles, ask for work, ask for help. Take advantage of every opportunity.

Software Engineer Intern

February 2018 • Oklahoma City, OK

What I liked

I am treated as a peer, and started out doing real work as soon as my training was complete. If I had a direction I wanted my work with Boeing to go, they helped me get there.

What I wish was different

I wish the intern engagement had been ongoing for the duration of my internship, rather than focused on the summer interns.

Advice

Don't be afraid to speak up. I was initially placed on a team doing work that was less relevant to my major, but I spoke up and was moved to a team doing very interesting work in software.

Materials Engineering Intern

June - September 2018 • Everett, WA

What I liked

I learned a lot about engineering within the professional world. A lot of of CAD on Catia (similar to solidworks) as well as trade studies for the materials within those designs. Learned how to design with a financial and creative mindset.

What I wish was different

Working in Everett. The huge factories made parking next to impossible if arriving past 7:00am.

Advice

Try to get as much as you can out of the internship because it’s really up to you to ask for work to do. Try to network as well, Boeing is really good about retaining interns for the next summer but will place you with a random manager every year unless you can connect with one managing a team you’d like to be apart of the following summer.
