
CTA Red Line Extension Intern Program

About the CTA-RLE Intern Program:
The CTA Red Line Extension will connect many South Side communities to the extensive CTA rail network. With trains, however, comes noise and vibration. Wilson Ihrig is on the project design team to ensure that the noise and vibration remain within limits established during the environmental review phase of the project.
This internship is an opportunity for a student with a strong interest in the science of sound and vibration to work alongside professional acoustical consultants addressing Red Line Extension noise and vibration. Prior knowledge of acoustics is not required, but we do require a demonstrable interest in acoustics, a good work ethic, and reliability. A quirky sense of humor is a plus. This internship provides:
- Introduction and training on analysis software, including Excel and GIS.
- Potential to conduct supplementary noise and vibration measurements along the alignment.
- Coaching and mentorship from Wilson Ihrig consultants to guide you through the summer experience.
Job Duties:
- Assist with data collection and analysis, using sound level meters and other equipment
Qualifications:
- High school diploma – current college student
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Ability to learn new software
- Reliable, flexible, with good time management skills
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel
- Excellent communication, both written and verbal
- Must be well organized
- Fluent English
