Job Summary:  The Before and After School Care Lead Teacher is responsible for planning and implementing engaging activities for school aged children in a safe nurturing environment. This role uses strong leadership skills, creativity, and excitement for working with children. Some responsibilities include preparing activity schedules, organizing recreational and enrichment activities, and ensuring the safety of all children.

 

Qualifications Required:

  • Minimum - Associate’s degree or higher in early childhood education or Child Development, including 18 semester hours and 480 hours of experience OR High school diploma with 12 semester hours of education coursework and 960 hours of experience
  • Current certification in infant, child and adult CPR and first aid
  • Must come to work on time and in proper attire and ready to cooperatively work with all staff, children and parents
  • Maintain yearly professional development hours required for licensure
  • Must be 21 years old or older

 

Job Description:

  • Serve as on-site staff person in charge and responsible for caring for Pre-K – 5th grade children
  • Possess a welcoming, caring, creative, energetic personality
  • Responsible for all planning, preparation and implementation of the Before and After School childcare program including weekly craft projects
  • Follows directions and guidance from supervisors to ensure the program meets high standards and operates with a district aligned focus on strategic planning
  • Lead and maintain a professional relationship with childcare aides/staff and assist in their management of children in our care
  • Must follow and enforce all childcare license rules and regulations
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to work closely with staff, children and parents. Effective and timely communication with Director of Community Education with concerns
  • Ability to work with at-risk and special needs students. Handle behavior challenges with students.
  • Maintain proper record keeping of attendance and of when students arrive/leave our care daily
  • Assist in getting students on/off buses to their home schools
  • Effective communication (written and verbal) skills to inform families any student issues
  • Maintain detailed records of injuries, incidents and staff concerns.
  • Manage staff absences to ensure proper ratios are maintained
  • Demonstrate effective classroom and behavior management skills

 

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:

  • This position requires long periods of standing, sitting, and walking. 
  • The position requires occasional lifting of supplies and movement of classroom furnishings during the course of the school day.
  • Work takes place both indoors and outdoors, with the possibility of some travel to other schools or field trip locations.

 

Schedule: Aug 13, 2025 – June 5, 2026 – Monday through Friday. Follows MPS Elementary calendar for closures.

School Year Workday: Monday – Friday, 6:45am - 8:45am (9:45am on Wednesday only) AND 3:30-6:00pm

Wages: $18.36 per hour
