Design Intern

Organization: Varna International 

Location: Columbia, SC 

Internship Period: Fall 2025 (September – December) 

Hours: Approx. 10-15 hours/week

Position Summary: The Design Intern will be our visual storyteller, responsible for translating Varna International's mission into compelling materials that inspire support and excitement. This role is ideal for a creative student with strong graphic design skills who wants to build a professional portfolio. Your work will be the first impression we make on potential sponsors, partners, and audience members.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design a polished and professional digital sponsorship packet (PDF) and a compelling presentation deck for corporate outreach.
  • Conceptualize and create visual assets for social media, the website, and email newsletters in collaboration with the PR Intern.
  • Research and present options for the redesign of the Varna International website, considering user-friendly platforms like Squarespace/Webflow.
  • Assist in gathering quotes from web designers or other creative vendors.
  • Ensure all materials are visually consistent and adhere to Varna International's brand guidelines.

What You'll Learn:

  • How to create a full suite of marketing and fundraising materials for a professional arts organization.
  • The process of branding and visual identity management.
  • Vendor research and the basics of managing a web design project.
  • Building a professional portfolio with high-impact, real-world projects.

Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in design software such as Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop) and/or Canva.
  • A portfolio of design work showcasing your skills and creative eye.
  • Strong understanding of layout, typography, and visual hierarchy.
  • Ability to take direction and work collaboratively with a remote team.
  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Graphic Design, Visual Arts, or a related field.
