Position Overview
Join us in the summer of 2026 and help us continue the legacy of fostering creativity, nurturing talent, and celebrating the individual artistic journey at Interlochen. We are seeking an experienced, proactive, and detail-oriented Lead Recording Engineer who embodies our core values and is committed to nurturing young artists. As the Lead Recording Engineer, you will provide audio recording, mixing, editing, and mastering services for Interlochen Presents productions. You will set up and record/mix for concerts and recitals, recording sessions at Interlochen Public Radio’s Studio A, mix live-to-stereo for various IAC webcasts, and, working closely with the Senior Recording Engineer, mix live simulcasts (on the ICA website and on Interlochen Public Radio) of the World Youth Symphony Orchestra and the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. In addition, you will engineer performance recordings and sessions with guest artists during the Akropolis Wind Quintet’s Chamber Music Institute, as well as engineer performance recordings with guest artists in residence during the Interlochen College of Creative Arts’ Chamber Music Camp. You will also have access to our two Walters-Storyk-designed Control Rooms at the Music Center and IPR (featuring full-range monitoring from ATC and consoles from Yamaha) for postproduction and critical audio work.
What You Get To Do
- Record Interlochen student and faculty productions, (including performances during Interlochen Arts Academy’s Festival and Commencement), WYSO (World Youth Symphony Orchestra) performances/broadcasts, and guest artist performances
- Engineer concert recordings for live and delayed webcast on the ICA website
- Edit and master recordings for ICA Recording Services Archives
- Maintain and care for performance venue recording equipment

Prepared to live in a residence hall with a roommate. While we offer accessible housing accommodations, please note that due to the rustic nature of our camp, these options are limited. - Degree in Audio Engineering, or at least 2 years of experience recording and mixing live classical and acoustic music
- Extensive working background in classical music and a solid theoretical and practical understanding of the concepts, microphone techniques, and technology involved in classical music recording, editing, and production
- Ability to utilize advanced audio recording, mastering, and editing techniques
- Ability to set up, calibrate, and operate studio recording equipment
- Thorough knowledge of analog and digital signal flow
- Knowledge of systems analysis, system software, and computer hardware (ProTools and Wavelab Pro 12 are our primary Digital Audio Workstations)
- Familiarity with Dante and Dante Controller (Level 2 certification)
- Familiarity with Yamaha digital production consoles (DM7, QL1, DM1000, 02R96) and Behringer X32/WING
- Able to manage calendar and work assignments during a very busy schedule with minimal supervision
- Maintain a service-oriented attitude with faculty and staff
- Efficient at multi-tasking in a fast-paced environment
