Medical Assistant – Physiatry & Pain Management

Job Title: Medical Assistant - (Students applying for medschool preferred)

Position Summary

The Clinical Assistant plays a key role in supporting physicians and advanced practice providers in a private practice specializing in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (Physiatry) and Pain Management. This position requires an experienced clinical professional who can work independently, manage complex clinical workflows, and support both patient care and administrative processes, including prior authorizations, medication management, and EHR documentation.

 

Looking for Medical Students/recent graduates applying for medical school in their gap year, preferably able to commit to 2 years. 

 

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Support

  • Independently room patients, obtain vitals, pain scores, and relevant clinical histories
  • Prepare patients for evaluations and interventional pain management procedures
  • Assist providers during office-based procedures, including injections, EMG/NCS, trigger point injections, and ultrasound procedures as applicable
  • Maintain readiness and sterility of procedure rooms and equipment
  • Apply and manage braces, splints, dressings, and other DME
  • Administer medications and injections within scope of certification and state regulations
  • Monitor patients pre- and post-procedure and proactively communicate clinical concerns

EHR & Clinical Documentation Management

  • Maintain proficiency in the practice’s EHR system and adapt efficiently to workflow changes
  • Enter and update clinical data including histories, medications, and allergies with accuracy
  • Support provider documentation through pre-charting, real-time workflow assistance, and post-visit follow-up
  • Monitor documentation completion and ensure charts are ready for provider review and signature
  • Ensure documentation meets regulatory, compliance, and HIPAA standards

Medication Management

  • Process medication refill requests and medication prior authorizations under provider direction
  • Communicate effectively with pharmacies, insurance carriers, providers, and patients regarding coverage issues if needed

Administrative & Care Coordination

  • Coordinate scheduling for visits, procedures, and follow-ups
  • Support insurance verification and benefits review as needed
  • Manage clinical supplies and anticipate inventory needs
  • Respond to patient portal messages and phone inquiries related to clinical care and medications

Patient Care & Professional Conduct

  • Provide knowledgeable, empathetic support to patients with acute and chronic pain conditions
  • Educate patients on procedures, medications, and post-treatment expectations
  • Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and a high standard of patient service

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Proficiency with EHR systems and medical terminology preferred
  • Prior experience in pain management, orthopedics, neurology, or physiatry strongly preferred

Compensation: $25/hour
