Engineering Internship/Co-Op - Pittsboro

Job Purpose: 

Support technical aspects of project objectives relating to the development of new medical and delivery devices including product testing, data analysis and results analysis.

 

Duties:

  • Support the development of new or existing products through close work with engineering project teams
  • Prepare prototypes for testing and client meeting purposes; rework finished goods
  • Collaborate with project teams to determine and develop test methods
  • Analyze data and write reports to document testing
  • Failure mode investigation and analysis
  • Metrology and dimensional analysis of parts or features
  • Maintain lab cleanliness and organization
  • Create 3D and 2D CAD of devices, components, and/or test fixtures
  • Source and purchase materials for the lab and prototype construction
  • Create project documentation (e.g. project plans, closeouts, specifications, protocols, reports)
  • Package and ship components and materials
  • Operate and create protocols for rapid prototyping machines (e.g. SLA, FDM, machining center)
  • Modify devices with manual machine tools

 

Skills/Qualifications:

  • Coursework in an engineering field (preferably Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering)
  • Ability to make mathematical computations
  • Ability to keep records
  • Ability to work alone or in teams and communicate effectively
  • Prior laboratory experience a plus
