Researcher Cultural Analyst
COLOR THEORY Magazine — an independent digital fashion and art publication exploring style through identity, history, and visual storytelling — is seeking a Researcher / Cultural Analyst to support the intellectual and cultural foundation of each issue.
Led by Kaila Symone, Wardrobe Stylist and Editor-in-Chief, COLOR THEORY offers students and emerging scholars the opportunity to apply academic research skills within a real editorial and publishing environment.
This role begins as an unpaid editorial fellowship, with a paid contributor pathway after four (4) credited research contributions.
Role Overview
This role includes:
Research & Context Development
• Develop research packets and reference materials for writers and editors
• Gather historical, cultural, and theoretical sources relevant to each issue’s theme
• Support story development with accurate background and contextual insight
Fact-Checking & Editorial Accuracy
• Fact-check cultural, historical, and visual references across articles
• Help ensure accuracy in names, dates, movements, and cultural context
• Support editorial integrity and ethical storytelling standards
Cross-Cultural & Global Perspective
• Provide cross-cultural insights that expand the magazine’s worldview
• Help ensure stories are culturally informed and respectfully framed
• Support the magazine’s commitment to nuanced, globally aware narratives
Editorial & Digital Support
• Assist with caption writing, credits, and story context for digital platforms
• Collaborate with the Social Media Manager to ensure accuracy in public-facing content
• Learn how research supports both long-form features and short-form storytelling
Qualifications
• Current student or recent graduate in fashion studies, history, cultural studies, journalism, or related fields
• Strong research and organizational skills
• Interest in fashion, culture, history, and global narratives
• Ability to synthesize research into clear, usable insights
Coursework, academic projects, theses, or research-heavy assignments are welcome.
