Water Resources Engineer
Water Resources Engineer (EIT / PE Track) – $101,000–$130,000 – Herndon, VA or Virginia Beach, VA (Onsite)
We are hiring a Water Resources Engineer to support transportation and municipal infrastructure projects across Virginia. This full-time role is based onsite in either Herndon, VA (Northern Virginia) or Virginia Beach, VA (Hampton Roads). Candidates may indicate their preferred location when applying.
Salary Range: $101,000–$130,000 annually (based on experience and licensure status)

This role is ideal for Civil or Environmental Engineering graduates and alumni with 4–10 years of experience who are pursuing or have obtained Professional Engineer (PE) licensure and want hands-on experience in hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, drainage design, and stormwater management for public infrastructure projects.
You will work on real-world transportation and municipal projects, including VDOT-related work, and receive mentorship toward technical leadership and project management responsibilities.
Primary Responsibilities:
• Hydrologic modeling using TR-55, TR-20, and Rational Method
• Hydraulic modeling using HEC-RAS, HY-8, HydroCAD, and/or PCSWMM
• Drainage and stormwater management system design
• Erosion and sediment control design
• Watershed studies and floodplain analysis
• Preparation of engineering plans, specifications, reports, and cost estimates
• Coordination with contractors, consultants, and local/state government agencies
• Support during the construction phase services
• Mentoring junior engineers as experience progresses
Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering from an ABET-accredited program
• 4–10 years of Water Resources Engineering experience (strong EIT candidates considered)
• EIT certification required; PE in Virginia preferred or ability to obtain within 6 months
• Experience with hydrologic modeling (TR-55, TR-20, Rational Method)
• Experience with hydraulic modeling (HEC-RAS, HY-8, HydroCAD, or equivalent)
• Drainage and stormwater management design experience
• Erosion and sediment control design experience
• Experience working with local or state government clients
Preferred Qualifications:
• Virginia Professional Engineer (PE) license
• Virginia DEQ Stormwater Management certification
• Experience with VDOT or Locally Administered Projects (LAP)
• MicroStation OpenRoads Designer
• GIS experience
Location Details:
Herndon, VA – Strong transportation infrastructure focus with multi-disciplinary engineering collaboration.
Virginia Beach, VA – Municipal and coastal stormwater systems with active engagement across Hampton Roads agencies.
Work Environment:
Approximately 60% office-based design work with occasional field visits and site inspections. Fieldwork may involve exposure to outdoor weather conditions. Light lifting (up to 25 lbs) may be required.
