SUMMARY: The Parks Maintenance Technician (Seasonal) performs various non-skilled manual labor tasks related to maintenance, cleaning, repair, and construction of the park system, cemetery, athletic fields, and various facilities to help ensure safe, clean, well-maintained grounds and facilities at assigned locations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

- Ability to listen to, read, understand, and communicate the English language both orally and in writing so others can understand, such as correspondence, report writing, and emails.

- Directs complex problems to supervisor.
- Mows, trims, weeds, and string trims parks, open spaces, medians, and streetscapes.
- Cleans and maintains park bathrooms, facilities, parks, open spaces, medians, irrigation ponds, athletic fields, cemetery grounds, and trails.
- May assist with snow removal operations.
- Performs typical parks/landscape maintenance tasks including mowing, weeding, pruning, trimming, cleanups, planting, grubbing, fertilizing, spraying (pesticides), irrigation maintenance, landscape construction, trash pickup, pet station cleanup, graffiti removal, cemetery cleanups and burials, bathroom janitorial maintenance, watering, fencing, snow plowing, edging and more.
- May assist with athletic field maintenance and marking.
- Emergency response as needed.
- Operates vehicles used in parks construction and maintenance light dump trucks, tractors, mowers, aerators, sprayers, pickups, trailers, snowplows, chippers, and others.
- Operates power tools including chain saws, string trimmers, demo saws, bush cutters, jackhammers, tampers, concrete saws, pressure washers, blowers, and more.
- Performs basic mower maintenance such as blade sharpening.
- Cleans and maintains city equipment and vehicles
- Uses hand tools including shovels, sledgehammers, tamps, wheelbarrows, rakes, and more.
- May be assigned to special events such as Heritage Day and trash cleanups.
- May apply herbicides and pesticides to control weeds and brush along streets, right-of-way, medians, parks, open spaces, streetscapes and more. Maintains usage records. Follows all applicable laws and uses required PPE.
- Performs periodic weekend, evening, and holiday work when necessary.
- Assists any other city departments as needed.
- Prioritizes personal and team safety at all times while at work.
- Ability to maintain all work areas and tools in a clean and safe condition.
- May enter confined spaces utilizing proper personal protective equipment (PPE), related safety equipment and entry permits.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND LICENSURE
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent; equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Valid Colorado Driver’s License or ability to obtain within six months of hire.
Preferred:
- Bilingual in English and Spanish.
- 1 year of parks related experience.
- Experience in public/municipal sector.
PHYSICAL AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to exercise mental and visual concentration, listen, talk, stand, reach, twist, demonstrate manual dexterity, walk on level, uneven and slippery terrain, turn, kneel, bend, stoop, squat, balance, crouch, crawl, grasp, pinch, and making repetitive hand movement in the performance of daily duties. The employee will need to lift, carry, and push tools, equipment and supplies weighing up to 85 pounds on an occasional basis and 20 to 50 pounds on a frequent basis. The employee will need to climb ladders, work in Confined Spaces, use power equipment/tools that produce vibration and noise, and work in Work Zones with moderate to heavy traffic. The employee regularly works in all outside weather conditions near moving equipment in areas with elevated noise levels and where chemicals may be utilized.
