Farmers Market Manager at Belknap Area Market Management

This is part of the Small Family Community Fellowship organized by UNH Cooperative Extension. You must be a NH resident and an undergraduate student to apply.

 

This position is located in Belknap County, NH (at farmers market locations). This position is part of the Small Family Community Fellowship program coordinated by UNH Cooperative Extension. Participants join a collaborative cohort engaged in weekly professional development, culminating in a final showcase to present their work. Applicants must be USNH undergraduate students, and preferably committing to participating in this internship for two consecutive summers.

Help us save local food in Belknap County! We manage three farmers' markets in the Lakes Region with the goals of reconnecting the public with local food and giving farmers and food producers the best chance of success. This important position will be split between remote work and onsite market-day support, offering the best of both worlds. You’ll help with various research projects, outreach, vendor and customer support, market-day set up, voucher transactions, and more. Get to know farmers and their products and make sure customers can always find what they’re looking for. Gain real-world experience working with customers, vendors and partner organizations.

 

Duties/Responsibilities

Market-Day Support (40%)

Assist with market setup: vendor spacing, signage, welcome tent setup, etc.

Work directly with customers: process market voucher transactions, help to locate products

Market records: record vendor attendance, notes about customer flow and weather, and voucher/cash tracking

Promotion: take pictures and post about the market on Facebook and Instagram

 

Remote Work (60%)

Research local farms, gardeners, businesses, nonprofits and community-oriented organizations

Identify farmers market best-practices that could be implemented in the future

Reach out to organizations to introduce them to BAMM and how we can work together

Send pre-market emails to vendors, update the vendor map, and manage the pre-market social-media posts

 

Requirements

Minimum Acceptable Education & Experience:

Associate+

Majors with a focus on agriculture, agbiz, food systems, business, marketing, communications, etc. are all acceptable

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Comfortable to proficient with Google Docs and Google Sheets

Good with social media (Facebook, Instagram)

Market-day support is rain or shine

Must be able to attend one weekend and one weekday market per week

Requires some heavy lifting of market tents, tables and signs

Must be detail-oriented

Good with people (friendly, professional)

Reliable

 

Preferred Qualifications:

A background in farming or agriculture is a bonus but not required

Compensation Pay Range:
