Independent High School Tutor — Build Your Teaching Business on ClassDojo’s Growing Platform

Dojo Tutor, powered by ClassDojo

$20–30/hour · Contract · Remote

Graduate students and recent graduates with teaching experience

This isn’t a typical tutoring gig.

Dojo Tutor is ClassDojo’s tutoring marketplace, and we connect families with educators who bring real depth to their subject. Our tutors design their own lessons, build relationships with learners over time, and deliver real instruction through Lessonspace — a purpose-built virtual classroom with interactive whiteboards, document sharing, and collaborative tools built for actual learning.

We’re looking for graduate students and recent graduates who combine advanced subject knowledge with genuine teaching ability. High school families come to us because their student needs more than generic homework help — they need someone who deeply understands the material and can make it click. If you’ve spent years going deep in your discipline and you know how to bring others along with you, this is built for you.

Before you apply, know this

We’re selective. Families on ClassDojo trust us to connect them with high-quality educators, and we take that seriously. Our application process includes a video interview and background check. We review your subject expertise, your teaching experience, and how you think about making advanced content accessible and engaging.

If you’re looking for something casual that doesn’t require preparation, this isn’t the right fit. If you’re excited about helping high schoolers tackle challenging material and build real academic confidence, keep reading.

Why Dojo Tutor?

As an independent contractor, you operate your own tutoring business on our platform. We provide the families (50+ million on ClassDojo), the booking system, and the payment infrastructure. You bring the expertise, the creativity, and the commitment to your learners.

High school is our fastest-growing and highest-demand segment. Families are actively seeking tutors who can support advanced coursework, AP preparation, test prep, dual enrollment, and college readiness. We’re also launching small group classes (2–8 learners) in 2026 — a format well-suited to study groups, test prep cohorts, and collaborative review sessions, giving you more ways to reach families and build your practice.

Areas of expertise we’re looking for

You don’t need to cover everything — we want tutors who go deep in their areas of strength.

Math: Algebra I & II, Geometry, Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus, Calculus, Statistics, AP Calculus AB/BC, AP Statistics

Science: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Environmental Science, AP Biology, AP Chemistry, AP Physics, AP Environmental Science

English Language Arts: Literature analysis, essay writing, research skills, AP Language & Composition, AP Literature & Composition

Writing: Academic writing, college application essays, research papers

Spanish: Advanced Spanish, AP Spanish Language & Culture

Coding: Python, Java, JavaScript, AP Computer Science A, AP Computer Science Principles

Test Prep: SAT, ACT, PSAT/NMSQT, subject-specific standardized tests

Advanced Academics: AP course support, dual enrollment coursework, honors-level content, college readiness and study skills

Who we’re looking for

  • Currently enrolled in or recently completed a graduate program (Master’s, PhD, or professional degree) with deep content knowledge in one or more subjects listed above
  • Demonstrated teaching experience — as a TA, instructor, tutor, student teacher, or in another role where you were responsible for student learning
  • Experience working with high school students (grades 9–12) is strongly preferred
  • The ability to break down advanced concepts and meet students where they are academically
  • Experience with or knowledge of AP curriculum, standardized test prep, or dual enrollment coursework is a strong plus
  • Comfort with virtual teaching tools (you’ll be using Lessonspace, not Zoom)
  • Strong communication skills with both students and families
  • A professional teaching environment and reliable internet connection

What matters most is your combination of subject depth and teaching ability. A physics PhD candidate who has TAed undergrad labs and tutored high schoolers on weekends is exactly who we’re looking for.

How it works

This is a 1099 independent contractor position. You choose your own availability — no minimum hours required. All sessions are currently 1-on-1, with small group classes (2–8 learners) launching soon. We handle booking, payment processing, and platform support so you can focus on teaching.

This is a great fit if you

  • Have advanced knowledge in your subject and want to put it to work helping high schoolers succeed
  • Take teaching seriously — you prepare for sessions, you think about pedagogy, you care about outcomes
  • Want to help students navigate AP exams, standardized tests, college applications, or the transition to college-level work
  • Are excited about growing a tutoring practice on a startup platform backed by a brand families already trust
  • See this as a meaningful professional opportunity that complements your academic or early career path
