Video Producer

Job Description

SkillCat is America's largest online trade school, with over 300,000 students trained in HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and other skilled trades. We're a venture-backed startup, out of Stanford, on a mission to get non-college-educated workers into great careers. We're growing fast and just getting started.

We're building a brand new in-person video content program that will set our courses apart from everything else on the market: high-quality, professional instructional video shot on location in the Orlando area that actually teaches a technician how to do their job.

We're looking for a hands-on Video Producer who can own this process from curriculum to final cut. This is a scrappy, execution-focused role. You plan the shoot, run the set, film, and edit. If you've ever watched a YouTube trade tutorial and thought "I could do this so much better," this is your shot.

What You'll Do:

  1. Translate curriculum documents into detailed shot lists: b-roll, scene breakdowns, run times, and equipment lists
  2. Write scripts and define shot flow, pacing, and visual structure for each lesson
  3. Coordinate logistics before each shoot: set design, equipment rental, scheduling, and participant alignment
  4. Run filming sessions on-site: set up multi-camera rigs, lighting, and audio (lavalier mics, managing warehouse acoustics)
  5. Edit multi-cam footage into polished final cuts, including motion graphics, callouts, and close-up inserts
  6. Share rough cuts quickly and iterate based on feedback; bias toward done over perfect
  7. Help build a repeatable, scalable production process as we grow the program

Who This Is For:

  1. 3-5 years of hands-on video production experience; you've run your own shoots, not just assisted
  2. Strong camera operation skills, including multi-camera setups
  3. Real experience with audio capture in challenging acoustic environments (warehouses, open spaces): lavalier mics, echo management
  4. Comfortable with lighting setup for demos and talking heads without a full grip crew
  5. Solid editing skills: multi-cam sync, motion graphics, instructional content pacing
  6. A portfolio or reel that shows the range of your work
  7. Based in the Orlando area; regular on-site filming is core to this role
  8. Scrappy, self-directed, and calm under pressure on set
  9. Startup or independent production experience preferred

What This Is Not:

  • Not a "Creative Director" role where you just manage a crew. You are the crew.
  • Not a remote-friendly position; you must be on-set in Orlando.
  • Not a role for someone who needs a perfectly defined script handed to them. You help build the vision from the curriculum.

If you are really passionate about this role, please send an email directly to laura@skillcatapp.com with your resume, a link to your portfolio or reel, and a short note on why this job is a great fit for you.
