Video Producer

SkillCat is America's largest online trade school, with over 400,000 students trained in HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and other skilled trades. We're a venture-backed startup, out of Stanford, on a mission to get non-college-educated workers into great careers. We're growing fast and just getting started.

We're looking for a hands-on Video Producer who can bring curriculum to life on screen. This is a full-time, direct hire position. It's scrappy and execution-focused. You plan the shoot, run the set, film, and edit. If you've ever watched a YouTube trade tutorial and thought "I could do this so much better," this is your shot.

What You'll Do:

  • Translate curriculum documents into detailed shot lists: b-roll, scene breakdowns, run times, and equipment lists
  • Write scripts and define shot flow, pacing, and visual structure for each lesson
  • Coordinate logistics before each shoot: set design, equipment rental, scheduling, and participant alignment
  • Run filming sessions on-site in Clermont, FL: set up multi-camera rigs, lighting, and audio (lavalier mics, managing warehouse acoustics)
  • Edit multi-cam footage into polished final cuts, including motion graphics, callouts, and close-up inserts
  • Share rough cuts quickly and iterate based on feedback; bias toward done over perfect
  • Help build a repeatable, scalable production process as we grow the program

Who This Is For:

  • 5+ years of hands-on video production experience; you've run your own shoots, not just assisted
  • Strong camera operation skills, including multi-camera setups
  • Real experience with audio capture in challenging acoustic environments (warehouses, open spaces): lavalier mics, echo management
  • Comfortable with lighting setup for demos and talking heads without a full grip crew
  • Solid editing skills: multi-cam sync, motion graphics, instructional content pacing
  • A portfolio or reel that shows the range of your work
  • You have your own basic production equipment; anything beyond that we'll rent or buy as needed
  • Within daily-commute distance to Clermont, FL for on-site filming days
  • Scrappy, self-directed, and calm under pressure on set
  • Startup or independent production experience preferred

What This Is Not:

  • Not a "Creative Director" role where you just manage a crew. You are the crew.
  • Not a fully remote position - on-site filming in Clermont, FL is a core part of the role. Pre-production, editing, and post-production work is done remotely.
  • Not a role for someone who needs a perfectly defined script handed to them. You help build the vision from the curriculum.

If you are really passionate about this role, please send an email directly to laura@skillcatapp.com with your resume, a link to your portfolio or reel, and a short note on why this job is a great fit for you.
