The Department of Natural Resources is hiring an Electronics Engineer at the Entry or Senior level within our Environmental Management Division. This position may be stationed in Madison or Milwaukee.

Position Summary:  This position functions as a technical expert in electronics engineering for the Air Management program and collaborates with other electronics engineer in the engineering design, evaluation, construction, operation, calibration and maintenance of specialized air pollution monitoring instruments, data acquisition instruments and ancillary equipment, including both hardware and software. This position is responsible for basic engineering design, construction, installation, maintenance, troubleshooting and calibration of real-time telemetry systems for purposes of data acquisition and instrument control at remote air monitoring stations. Emphasis is placed on creative design and implementation of data acquisition and air pollution monitoring systems to meet the needs of Air Program staff, all DNR staff and the public. These systems are monitored, evaluated and maintained for effectiveness. Assignments are broad in scope and continually require the individual to use independent judgment in making professional engineering decisions. The position utilizes, services, maintains and calibrates electronic equipment. The ability to develop computer software and detailed documentation of the software to meet the specifications of the Air Monitoring Section's staff is required. The position also requires familiarity with microprocessors, microcontrollers, principles of electromechanical design, computers and related computer programming languages and operating systems. The position also requires familiarity with TCP/IP networking principles for the maintenance of the current network as well as to design future network upgrades. This position provides ambient air quality data to assess ambient air quality (related to human health and welfare standards) as required by the 1990 Clean Air Act Amendments and for modeling purposes that relate to permitting and conditions affecting industry throughout Wisconsin. Ensures accurate ambient air quality data is provided to DNR staff that make informed decisions on air quality matters.

Qualifications:  
To apply for this position, you must meet at least one of the requirements below:
- A state of WI Professional Engineering (PE) License or one from another state or is able to obtain a WI PE license prior to appointment
- An Engineering degree or will have an Engineering degree by the time of appointment from a recognized college or university,
- A specific record, issued by the professional engineering section of the Department of Safety and Professional Services, showing 4 years or more of experience in engineering work of a character satisfactory to the professional engineering section and satisfactory completion of the fundamentals of engineering exam;
- OR have equivalent professional training and practical experience so as to be deemed a professional engineer as defined in Department of Safety and Professional Services per s. 443.01, Wis. Stats. AND also deemed to be qualified to engage in professional engineering practice as determined by the Department of Safety and Professional Services per s. 443.04 or 443.05, Wis. Stats.

Minimally qualified candidates for the entry level will have one of the above, plus experience related to troubleshooting and repairing electronic equipment.
