Post Doc Research Associate - WaterPower Engineer

The candidate for this position will actively participate in interdisciplinary projects, sponsored by government agencies (e.g. the Department of Energy and US Army Corps of Engineers), to study the environmental impact of renewable energy systems such as conventional hydropower, marine and hydrokinetic energy, and wind power. Examples may include development of autonomous and mobile water quality monitoring systems for challenging locations, field deployment and testing of sensing and telemetry systems or prototype devices at hydroelectric dams and wind farms, as well as characterizations of fish friendliness of hydropower and MHK systems and structures. Job responsibility include autonomous sensor design, autonomous sensor platform design, experimental design, digital signal acquisition in laboratory and field settings, data processing and analysis, and leading journal article and report writing.
Minimum Qualifications
Candidates must have received a PhD within the past five years (60 months) or within the next 8 months from an accredited college or university.
Preferred Qualifications
Candidates must have received a PhD in mechanical engineering, civil or environmental engineering, physical oceanography, or a related field.
The candidate must have demonstrated experience with digital signal acquisition and processing, surface water instrumentation and data acquisition, or acoustic instrument and measurements. The candidate must have experience with analysis and visualization tools (e.g., MATLAB; Tecplot; Excel). In addition, the successful candidate will be able to work well in a team setting; will exhibit a strong work ethic; will be self-motivated; and will place a high value on data quality and accuracy. Hands-on experience of underwater autonomous vehicles, multi-robot network, or underwater acoustic is preferred. Good publication record is preferred.
