Construction Inspector - Part Time - Seasonal

S.W. Cole Engineering, Inc. is accepting applications for a seasonal Construction Inspector to work on infrastructure projects in Southeastern Massachusetts based from our office in Taunton, MA. This position involves working at construction project sites, observing and documenting work performed by contractors to assess conformance with plans and specifications, contract administration, reporting daily progress, tracking and documenting quantities of work performed, resolving construction issues in the field, and other responsibilities. We anticipate the position will involve working 10 to 20 hours per week beginning in early May and extending through late Fall.

Job Requirements

Candidates shall have knowledge of construction means and methods, materials, ability to read and interpret plans and specifications and be able to calculate quantity takeoffs. Candidates must have 3-5 years of experience in municipal roadway and infrastructure construction. 

The physical and mental requirements for this position include standing for long periods of time, as well as move up and down from kneeling to crouching to bending. Must be able walk across uneven ground with varying conditions (including tripping hazards, ice and snow, brush, construction staging, etc.). Requires close, distance, and peripheral vision. Ability to interact appropriately with a variety of individuals including but not limited to coworkers, supervisors, clients. Ability to remember and understand verbal and written instructions. Ability to reason logically and make decisions. The Construction inspector is occasionally exposed to variable and potentially extreme weather and temperature conditions. Applicants must have good verbal and written communication skills: Will be required to effectively communicate verbally to clients, project team members, supervisors and coworkers. Will be required to write effectively to complete reports, take notes, record observations and data, and write emails and text messages on a daily basis. Candidates must be computer proficient including the ability to utilize digital devices such as smartphone, tablet, and or laptop computer to provide daily reports to the office via email. Candidates must be able to apply basic math skills for compiling and calculating data. Applicants must have reliable transportation, a valid driver’s License, active automobile insurance and an acceptable driving record.

Education Requirements

High School Diploma or equivalent required. Associates degree in related field preferred or equivalent additional experience in engineering and related construction.
