Position – Summer Accounting Intern
Walter Shuffain is a mid-sized firm providing consulting, tax and estate planning, and accounting services to a variety of business sectors including: real estate, professional services, healthcare, technology, manufacturing and construction. The Summer Internship Program will begin in mid-June and last approximately 7 weeks. Qualified candidates for the position of intern should have a minimum overall and accounting GPA of 3.0. Candidates should be an outgoing person with a strong desire to pursue a career in public accounting. Interns are supervised by managers, senior accountants and other, more experienced staff accountants. Initially, they are given less complex accounting and tax assignments. As they gain experience, they are given more difficult assignments. Over the course of the summer, we will also provide professional development sessions to enhance your employment experience.
Essential Functions:
Become familiar with firm policies and procedures.
Understand the rules, requirements, and code of conduct of the AICPA, and the authoritative literature established by the FASB and GASB.
Obtain a working knowledge of tax and accounting research techniques and the various research sources of the firm’s library.
Obtain a working knowledge of firm technology, including the use of e-mail, the Internet, spreadsheets and tax software.
Become proficient in the preparation of corporate, individual, partnership, fiduciary and other tax forms.
Assume responsibility for completion of assignments.
Perform assigned audit, review and compilation procedures under the supervision of more experienced staff.
Develop good work habits.
Learn to work effectively with co-workers and supervisors.
Get involved in some structured FUN activities!
Training:
In addition to our week long initial training and on the job training, the candidate will receive computer training with our IT Manager as well as ongoing use of firm related software.
The program includes many fun activities, including summer outing, community service, intern outings, and many more!! Plus we have Fridays off in the summer and casual dress!!
