Museum Educator II

The Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation’s Museum Education team is looking for enthusiastic instructors to use various teaching methodologies to present 17th and 18th century educational history programs to students of diverse backgrounds, ages, and learning abilities in classrooms throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia. Selected instructors will understand the importance of learning, curiosity, and empathy in fostering an understanding of how the past influences the present. The ideal candidate will be able to learn and understand different teaching methodologies and apply these methods in the collaborative development and independent implementation of curriculum-based educational programming. Prior experience working in an educational setting is preferred. Historical content, approved curriculum, logistics and current methodologies will be provided in training. Role has potential to expand into other teaching opportunities such as our virtual programming.


Qualifications:
  • Excellent communication skills to include- written, oral, public speaking and active listening.
  • Ability to work and adapt successfully in a fast paced and changing work environment.
  • Knowledge of and ability to learn different teaching techniques
  • Ability to work collaboratively and independently in the development, revision and implementation of educational programming.
  • General understanding of educational institutions objectives and operations either in a classroom, museum or other applicable setting.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, to include- accurately completing paperwork, managing schedules, and maintaining artifact kit.
  • Willingness to travel consistently both locally and statewide, sometimes overnight.
  • Must be able to operate a vehicle and manage artifact kits of up to 50lbs, moving them to and from buildings and vehicles.
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods while presenting artifacts so that students may view and analyze them.
  • Must have valid driver’s license

Preferred Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Degree in history, museum studies, education, or equivalent experience.
  • Prior educator or instructor experience teaching at a variety of age levels in a classroom or museum setting


Special Requirements:

Must be able to provide availability September through May.

Required training is scheduled for September 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, 12th, 13th, 14th, and 16th, 19th,. Considered candidates must be able to attend all required training dates listed above.
