COLA Fellowship- Seacoast NH LGBTQ Oral History Project

Summer 2023 COLA Fellowship Program 
The College of Liberal Arts (COLA) Global Racial and Social Inequality Lab (GRSIL) is hosting summer fellowship program for students enrolled in COLA majors. Rising COLA Juniors and Senior students with a passion for sustainable social justice and skills to promote positive change will be paired with a local organization to work for 6 weeks (dates may vary by host site). DESCRIPTION
Modality: The modality is flexible; both in-person and remote options are possible.
 
Host Overview:
The Seacoast NH LGBTQ+ Oral History Project seeks to collect personal life stories from a diverse group of LGBTQ+ individuals in the Seacoast New Hampshire region in order to create a publicly-accessible archive and public-facing website. Through the archive, a website, and engagement with community groups and events in the form of presentations and exhibits, the Project aims to enrich the public’s understanding of the local LGBTQ+ community, educate about social change and the quest for equality across generations, and present a fuller picture of the social and historical landscape of the New Hampshire Seacoast through the lens of individuals’ lived experiences and unique perspectives.
 
Project Overview:
A public humanities project to uncover the hidden history of LGBTQ+ Portsmouth, NH and the surrounding Seacoast region.
 
Deliverables:
  • Final, edited and annotated versions of oral histories
  • Coded and time stamped outlines of oral histories
  • Well-researched entries in a story map of LGBTQ+ Portsmouth, NH
