Head Swim Coach (Seasonal)

Salary Range:$16.00 To 16.00 Hourly

The City of Leawood, Kansas will be accepting applications for Head Swim Coach (Seasonal) until January 31, 2024.

The Head Swim Coach is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the recreational Swim Team program and coordinates meets and events in conjunction with the Leawood Lighting Parent Board and City Staff.  This position is responsible for the coordination of swim practices and meets along with the safety of the participants.


Essential Functions / Responsibilities

  • Responsible for overseeing the planning, preparing and implementing well-diversified and structured swim practices and meets for patrons. Duties include but not limited to ensuring participants are informed of important information, ensuring entry cards for meets are prepared accurately and on time, determining swimmers for each meet, coordinating transportation to meets and events and ensuring the safety of the patrons.
  • Supervises and evaluates assistant coaches including but not limited to preparing job tasks and time sheets, and overseeing interaction with participants.
  • Assists in conducting swim lessons for patrons ranging in age from one to fourteen years of age. Ensures the safety of the patrons during swim lessons.
  • Wears approved attire at all times.
  • Reports to scheduled work shifts on time.
  • Attends required meeting and training sessions.
  • Represents the City and the Swim team at meetings and special functions.
  • May be required to make decisions regarding inclement weather, in regards to meets and practices, which may warrant cancelling participation or seeking shelter.

Education, Training, and Certification Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent and one (1) year of college or equivalent experience required.
  • Must have a minimum of one (1) year experience as Assistant Swim Coach or equivalent.
  • Competitive swimming or equivalent experience required.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record per the City’s drivers Use of Vehicles for City Business policy throughout employment with the City.
