Summer 2024 COLA Fellowship Program
The College of Liberal Arts (COLA) Global Racial and Social Inequality Lab (GRSIL) is hosting summer fellowship program for students enrolled in COLA majors. Rising COLA Juniors and Senior students with a passion for sustainable social justice and skills to promote positive change will be paired with a local organization to work for 6 weeks (dates may vary by host site). DESCRIPTION
Modality: 15 hours a week. The work will be hybrid.
Fellowship Host:
Black Heritage Trail of New Hampshire promotes awareness and appreciation of African American history and life to build more inclusive communities today. We believe that if we could embrace our shared history, we could heal racial anxiety and misunderstanding -- in our communities, our state and in this country.
Fellowship Project Overview:
The project will focus on the creation of design graphics for digital and print marketing of BHTNH five major programs – Tea Talks, Juneteenth, Frederick Douglass community speech reading, Historic markers and the Black New England Conference. In addition to those, we also provide a series of tours around Portsmouth and other locations in New Hampshire. The fellow will be responsible for:
- Adhering to brand guidelines and deadlines.
- Retouching and manipulating images.
- Use of graphic design software (Adobe CC) and variety of media.
- Collaborate with Program Manager, Marketing Specialist, and Executive Director in developing design concepts.
Deliverables:
- Learning the nuances of graphic design marketing for an array of programming to various audiences.
- Not only designing, creating graphics, but preparing them for professional printing and online publication.
- Enhancing collaboration skills under mentorship of organization’s leadership and staff.
