Student Assistant Engineering and Architectural Sciences

This is a Limited-Term Intermittent position. These positions may work a maximum of 1500 hours per calendar year.

 

The Atmospheric modeling and support section is responsible for preparing spatially, temporally, and size-resolved emission inventories, as well as conducting air quality modeling studies and providing technical support using sound science for statewide regulatory and policy programs. The section works with and supports a broad range of internal and external scientists, engineers, and policymakers. This is a great job opportunity for a motivated student to gain work experience in a training level capacity.  The successful candidate will assist in the pre-processing of maps, data analysis and collection and processing of other available data sources that are used to spatially disaggregate county wide emissions estimates. Specific tasks related to this position may include using existing tools and applications to manipulate and analyze large complex datasets, work with section staff to assist in the quality assurance and data analysis of modeling inputs, perform quality assurance and data analyses on emissions of spatially and temporally resolved emissions data.

Working Conditions

 

This position may be eligible for hybrid in-office work and in-state telework. The amount of telework is at the agency's discretion and is based on the California Air Resource Boards' (CARB) current telework policy. While the CARB may support telework, some in-person attendance is also required. 

The positions at the CARB may be eligible for telework with in-person attendance based on the operational needs of the position under Government Code 14200 for eligible applicants residing in California, subject to the candidate meeting telework eligibility criteria outlined in the CalEPA telework policy and/or future program need. Employees not residing in California are not eligible for telework. Regardless of hybrid telework eligibility, all employees may be required to report to the position’s designated headquarters location at their own expense, as indicated on their duty statement.

  • Requires being stationary, consistent with office work, for extended periods.
  • Standard office environment (artificial lighting, controlled temperature, etc.)
