Air Resources Technician II

This is a Permanent Intermittent position, and may work at a maximum of 1,500 hours per calendar year.

The Air Resources Board is seeking a highly motivated, detail-oriented, technical savvy, and responsible candidate with great communication skills to fill a vacant Air Resources Technician II position within the In-Use Control Measures Section of the Transportation and Clean Technology Branch. The successful candidate will join a dynamic team responsible for developing and implementing regulatory strategies and emission control measures to support the reduction of harmful criteria and greenhouse gas emissions from medium and heavy duty on-road mobile sources. This includes the development of a regulatory strategy to foster the deployment of zero emission technologies into medium and heavy duty truck and bus market in California building on previous regulations including the Advanced Clean Truck and Advanced Clean Fleets regulations.

The Air Resources Technician II will assist Air Pollution Specialists and Air Resources Engineers in (1) performing and reviewing scientific/statistical evaluations and surveys; (2) compiling and analyzing emission data; (3) assessing the availability and feasibility of advanced medium and heavy-duty vehicle propulsion technologies to reduce emissions; (4) estimating the costs associated with the operation and maintenance of advanced zero emission technologies, (5) designing, maintaining, and updating the program website, and (6) preparing reports and other correspondence as needed. In addition, the incumbent will help coordinate and participate in public workshops, meetings, and other events. Other duties, as required, may include photocopying, filing, and providing administrative assistance to the manager and the section.

This position is offered in either downtown Sacramento and in close proximity to multiple public transit stations of regional and county transit authorities as well as numerous well-reviewed eateries, or in Riverside at CARB's new state-of-the-art zero net energy facility adjacent to the University of California, Riverside campus.

Working Conditions

 

The positions at the CARB may be eligible for telework with in-person attendance based on the operational needs of the position under Government Code 14200 for eligible applicants residing in California, subject to the candidate meeting telework eligibility criteria set forth in the CalEPA telework policy and/or future program need. Employees not residing in California are not eligible for telework. Regardless of hybrid telework eligibility, all employees may be required to report to the position’s designated headquarters location at their own expense, as indicated on their duty statement.
