Postdoctoral Position in Iron Metabolism

A Postdoctoral position in iron metabolism is available for a qualified candidate at the UCLA Center for Iron Disorders, Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care. The Center focuses on understanding the pathogenesis of iron disorders (beta-thalassemia, hemochromatosis, anemia of inflammation), as well as homeostatic mechanisms involved in iron regulation in pregnancy or host defense. The lab uses a multidisciplinary approach combining cell culture, genetic and clinically-relevant mouse models, and a variety of techniques including immunohistochemistry, RNA and protein analyses, flow cytometry, confocal microscopy, RNAseq, and others.

Eligible candidates must have a Ph.D. in biomedical sciences and/or M.D. doctoral degree.  We are looking for a highly motivated individual with great communication skills, the desire to work in a highly collaborative environment and to cooperate with co-workers and other scientists across different disciplines.  The candidate will be required to perform in vitro and in vivo models of iron regulation and iron pathology, including modulation by erythropoiesis, inflammation and pregnancy. Experience with standard cellular and molecular biology techniques is required, as well as confocal microscopy and flow cytometry. Experience in murine in vivo models is encouraged but not mandatory.
