Job Summary

This classification is designed as a recruitment tool to provide qualified applicants an opportunity to explore a career in law enforcement with the Dallas Police Department. 

This position seeks to provide meaningful employment to individuals who meet the necessary educational requirements of the Police Officer Trainee III classification but do not yet meet the minimum age requirement of 19.5. 

As a part-time employee, the Pathway Apprentice performs administrative tasks and assists with community policing field operations in order to prepare the individual for employment as a Dallas Police Officer. Incumbents are evaluated periodically by supervisory level employees.


Job Description
 

Overview

The Pathway Apprentice recruits qualified applicants to explore a career in law enforcement with the Dallas Police Department. Performs administrative tasks and assists with community policing field operations in order to prepare the individual for employment as a Dallas Police Officer. Incumbents are evaluated periodically by supervisory level employees.

 

Essential Functions

Upon hiring, may be assigned to Field Operations or other support roles according to the needs of the Department.

2 Proposes solutions to existing problems and discusses proposals with sworn and non-sworn personnel in planning and executing administrative functions, special events, and community engagement activities to acquire skills in community policing.

3 Performs other related duties, including special projects as requested or required.

4 Maintains and distributes equipment and vehicles for police officers.

5 Writes event scripts, maintains files, and assists in scheduling and coordinating events.

6 Performs administrative duties to assist sworn personnel and citizens at patrol divisions.

7 Performs any and all other work as needed or assigned.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of police department and public safety.

2 Knowledge of basic mathematical principles.

3 Knowledge of general field operations

4 Ability to investigate problems and analyze information.

5 Ability to write clear, concise reports.

6 Communicating effectively verbally and in writing.

7 Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.

 

Education

A minimum of 45 college credit hours from an accredited university or community college upon initial employment; Current Full-time enrollment at an accredited university.

 

Experience

None

 

Licenses and Certifications

Requires State of Texas Class “C” Driver’s License

 

Must pass the Department’s Physical Fitness Requirements, the Police Department’s Background Investigation and polygraph, the Police Department’s Physical and Psychological Examination and must be certified under the City of Dallas Driver’s Safety Program.

 



Salary Range

 

$20.22 - $22.26
