Job DescriptionOverview

The Earth and Biological Sciences Directorate (EBSD) leads novel and necessary research in three core areas: Atmospheric and Climate Sciences, Biological Sciences, and Environmental Molecular Sciences. The contributions of EBSD staff are many as we continue to elevate the impact of PNNL's science mission: to understand, predict, and control the complex adaptive systems underlying the science behind Earth, energy, and security.

Responsibilities

The Cell Signaling and Communication team at PNNL is seeking a highly motivated candidate for a postdoctoral position focusing on advanced mass spectrometry (MS)-based proteomics approaches towards the application of multiple cellular systems. This opportunity also integrates a diverse array of capabilities ranging from analytical biochemistry, mass spec instrumentation, multi-omics measurements, single cell proteomics, bioinformatics across many biomedical and environmental applications. The candidate will have the opportunity to work across multiple cutting-edge and synergistic projects as PNNL has vibrant research programs in both human health and environmental systems biology. The individual will contribute to advance global, targeted, and post-translational modification MS based analyses to discover and validate novel mechanistic pathways in human physiology and disease. The candidate will have the opportunity to receive technical training in the latest cutting-edge mass spectrometry applications available within PNNL’s world-class Environmental Molecular Sciences Laboratory which houses over 40 top-of-the-line mass spectrometers. The center also houses other high-end resources, such as nuclear magnetic resonance, single molecule microscopy, cryo-electron microscopy, and mass cytometry.

The selected candidate is expected to 1) Conduct independent research and work on team assignments, lead manuscripts and maintain a strong overall publication record in the peer- reviewed scientific literature, 2) Interact, communicate, and problem-solve with a diverse team of multi-disciplinary research staff across PNNL, 3) Present research projects at national conferences, (4) Work safely and independently in a laboratory setting, and (5) Participate in the development of research proposals.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong organization and communication skills to work efficiently in a team environment and to effectively demonstrate project success.
  • The ideal candidate would have a Ph.D. degree in the biochemistry, analytical chemistry, molecular biology, or closely related fields. Although not required, hands-on experience in mass spectrometry, proteomics, LC separations, affinity purifications, posttranslational modifications, and data analysis will be considered as a plus.
  • The candidate should have excellent “lab hands”, i.e. technical expertise at the bench. Additionally, the candidate should be safety-oriented, possess excellent communication skills (oral and written), be collaborative, and have a desire to learn and develop new concepts and research techniques.
